Kit Garden Assembly

If you are planning to put your garden outside, we recommend that you either seal or paint the the wood pieces of your garden. You can either paint the wood before or after the garden is assembled. If you choose to paint the wood, we recommend using a sealer and exterior latex paint.

Before you get started building your kit garden, there are a few things you’ll need:

A Phillips head screw driver or drill bit
Flat surface to build the garden on
5/16th ratchet socket
Bungie cord 48 inches or adjustable strap (optional)

1.

Lay out garden, placing like-letters together (as pictured)

Legs have four pre-drilled holes. Place the end with holes closest to the top of the garden.

Place corner bracket onto end pieces, like so.

Insert leg into corner bracket.

Make sure the drilled holes in the leg are closest to the other pieces of wood and the bracket.

Slide leg in place and be sure there are no gaps between the two other pieces of wood and the bracket. All the pieces should fit close together.

Hold down on bracket to keep wood from moving, it may be advantageous to have someone else hold the bracket while you screw in each 1 1/4 wafer-head screw.

Each outside corner will have four screws.

This is what a finished cornerwill look like. Notice the tightness between the two pieces of wood.

Continue the same process on the other side.

A completed corner should look like this.

There will be four screws that go on the inside of the bracket.

When all four corners are finished, set your spacer blocks at the end of your frame like so.

Take one of the 18 inch support beams and slide it down so it sits on top of the provided spacer blocks. Be sure that the spacer bocks are turned the correct direction. The word “spacer” will be right side up, with the arrows pointing up and down.

Slide support beam down on top of spacer blocks like so.

Tip

Bungie or adjustable strap can help put tension between the legs.

Slide lag screws into the pre-drilled holes.

15.

Drill in each of the screws, one at a time, until snug. Be careful not overtighten.

Repeat on the other side.

Next, gather one of the four black braces and four 1 1/2 hex head screws. Locate the pre-drilled holes in the garden bed.

Pictured above are the four black braces and four 1 1/2 hex head screws. Locate the pre-drilled holes in the corner of the bed.

Begin by screwing the first hex head screw, but do not tighten yet. Start with the screw pictured—closest to the leg.

Screw in the next hex head screw. Again, do not tighten yet.

Now take a ratchet and apply pressure as you ratchet the screw down. Do NOT fully tighten the screw, leave it about a centimeter above the brace. Then do the same thing to the next three screws, as pictured below.

Proceed by tightening all the screws until they are about a centimeter from being fully tightened. Once all four screws are in, return to the first screw and tighten it down (snug, but not over tightened), then move to the screw directly above it and do the same thing, until all four screws are tight.

Repeat this on each corner. Upon finishing, your braces should all look like this.

Next, in the following we will show the installment of the bands. This is what a completed garden will look like with the bands inserted.

There are three support bands. Begin by centering the first one in the middle of the garden and screwing it down, using a #8 1 1/4 wafer-head screw. Two screws will be used per band.

Place the next band half way between the end of the garden and the centered band. Repeat on the other end of the garden with the remaining band.

Screw each #8 1 1/4 wafer head screw in until snug.

This is what a completed garden with inserted bands will look like. You may need to press on the bands as shown in the picture to ensure the bin slides into the frame well.

Place bin into the garden frame.

Locate the small centered hole for the pan head machine screw 1/4-20x2” SS. Push screw down through hole.

The pan head machine screw will be visible on the underside of the bin. Take the 1/4-20 SS nut and screw it onto the pan head machine screw.

To fully tighten use a Phillips head screwdriver to keep screw from turning, as you tighten the 1/4-20 SS nut onto the pan head machine screw, using a 1/2 inch deep well socket or wrench. Tighten until snug, but do not over tighten.

Locate the two pan head machine screws #8-32x1/2” SS and the two small holes at the opposite end of the bin. Insert a screw in each hole.

When both pan head machine screws are inserted in the bin, they should look as pictured.

Now, take the black stirrup and place it so that the two pan head machine screws fit in the pre-drilled holes of the stirrup.

Use a Phillips head screwdriver to hold the screw in place while you secure with nylon insert lock nuts from below (#8x32 SS)

When nylon insert lock nuts are on, the stirrup should look as pictured.

Locate the provided drainage trough. One end of the trough will have a pre-drilled hole in it. Slide the end that does NOT have the pre-drilled hole through the stirrup you just fixed to the bin.

On the end of the trough that has the pre-drilled hole, bring it up to the pan head machine screw and slide it though the hole. To secure, twist on the 1/4-20 SS wing nut.

When finished securing the trough, it should look as pictured.

38.

Your garden is now ready to be moved to the desired location and filled with soil and plants of your choice.
